Dating your best friend: Not always a good idea

Friendship and romantic relationship are two totally different things. Your best friend may not be the best date or spouse. At the same time, in most cases, your best friend may know you better than anyone else. You might have perfect chemistry with her or him and you may never need to waste time and money on dating.

So how to approach it?

1. Does your friend feel the same way about you? If you are not sure, ask her or him directly. Since she or he is your best friend, it is better to be honest. Your friendship, if it does not turn into a romantic relationship, might actually become even stronger.
2. Back off if the idea does not appeal to the friend.
3. It will take some time for both of you to get used to the new relationship; so be patient.
