Attracted to a married person
No matter how much you tell someone not to do it, this happens more often than we would like it to. In many cases, the married person is simply not happy with her/his current relationship and is either actively looking or is tempted into a relationship. In a small number of cases, the married person is in a great relationship but then just bumps into a person who creates a storm. Lisa belongs to the latter scenario. She is 36 and happily married for 9 years. "My relationship is like any other. Nothing out of this world, but nothing to complain. Until Mike came along. I met him at a party and it was like magic. We clicked so well that I felt that I have never connected so well with anyone in my life. He and his wife have visited our home a couple of times and my husband likes them both too but he has no idea how I feel about Mike. I feel that Mike's wife also has no clue how Mike and I are attracted to each other. I am so terrified of my own emotions. What do I do?"
Our position at LuvCube has always been simple: There will always be better people around. Prettier, funnier, more intelligent, more charming, etc. But that does not mean that you simply keep looking for the next better person since it then becomes an endless cycle. There is never an end to it and you will always be looking. Plus, you will not enjoy what you have. The only time we encourage that you look for something better is when your current relationship is not working or is dysfunctional. Lisa's case does not meet that test.
What to do when you are attracted to a married person?
Most normal, married people are attracted to other people even if they are completely satisfied with their relationship. By merely feeling attraction towards another person you are not committing any sin or adultery. It is human nature to be attracted to many things at the same time. Some choose to deny this to themselves and that is perfectly fine but there is no reason to deny it to yourself.
Attraction, however, does not mean that you start an romantic/intimate relationship with that person. By entertaining Mike and his wife, Lisa is doing the right thing. She is enjoying Mike's company without jeopardizing her own relationship. As long as she sees no change in her feelings for her husband, it is perfectly acceptable to socialize with Mike. It is a great way to enjoy Mike's charming company.

I disagree. I don't think you can be "just friends" with someone you are romantically attracted to, especially if the feeling is mutual. You will either end up messing up your primary relationship or you will be tormented by desire and the repressed emotions will make you crazy. Better not to see each other. If you can't resist, it is better to cheat discreetly than to try introduce them to your spouse! I know you mean well, but that is the worst scenario! Ed Stamm
