Trip to Hill Fort Kesroli

An excellent destination for a weekend trip from Delhi

Cindy is traveling to India with her boyfriend on a business trip to Delhi. They both plan to buy readymade garments for their Santa Monica boutique. "I have done the Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur) thing and do not have time to fly any place far. Do I have any other options for a road trip from Delhi so that I can check out an exotic destination without spending too much time on the road?" she asks.

Indeed, land transportation in India is a major challenge and traffic is only getting worse. One destination that you might want to think about is the Fort in Kesroli that has now been converted into a hotel. Kesroli is in the Alwar district of Rajasthan and is just 4-5 hours by car from Delhi.

In other words, you can really spend some quality time with your boyfriend after you are done with your business. Imagine sleeping in a 700-year-old fort where you can hear the birds singing almost as if it was 700 year ago!

Hill Fort Kesroli is located in the countryside in the middle of a small village where life does not seem to have changed much since the time the fort was built. The resort provides excellent service, the attention to detail is amazing, and you almost feel as part of a royal family while you are there.

The hotel is relatively small. It only accommodates a few dozen guests, which provides a rather cozy, almost family-like environment. It is not your typical bed and breakfast place but the staff is so good that you almost feel like you are staying with an Indian family. All meals are included in the price and they also serve tea in the afternoon. This is the time when you get to meet other guests and can even chat with them.

The closest major city is Alwar. To my surprise, although not well cared for, Alwar has a very impressive palace and museum. The royal palace in Alwar is almost a mystical place where you feel the intrigues of centuries ago, the tense calm between English and the Indians, and can admire the beautiful architecture of the times.

Close to the fort there are a few other activities such as the Siliserh Lake, Neelkanth Temple and Sariska Tiger Sanctuary. However, you can simply stay in the resort all the time catching up on your sleep or reading. Fort Kesroli offers a place to just have some plain fun Maharajah-style.

Fort Keseroli is a great escape from New Delhi and a way to see India, all at a great price. It is a short trip and a place to shop like the locals because there are very few tourists in this area. I look forward to visit other hotels in historic properties by Neemrana Group because of my unforgettable experience at Hill Fort Keseroli.
