Brian in Los Angeles writes, "Based on your article on
plastic surgery
gifts, I gave my wife of 11 years a gift that includes
labiaplasty,
vaginoplasty, and
on the surgeon's recommendation, a pubic
lift. During the research phase, my wife also got intrigued by the idea of hymenoplasty. Now, I am not someone who
cares about making love to a virgin at this point in my life, but she wants to do it. What do you think?" he asks.
Indeed,
cosmetic
treatments for private parts are growing rapidly but since statistics are not maintained by ASPS, it is hard to say what the numbers are.
Newspapers and magazines are, however, full of stories on these procedures. Surgeons who perform these surgeries are not always
true experts since the academic institutions do not teach many of these procedures and the medical literature is pretty much non-existent. However, many surgeons use advertisements to
recruit their patients.
Hymenoplasty or
hymen repair or revirgination is a procedure that has traditionally been used by women who follow Islam or Catholicism. Its popularity among
people of other faiths is primarily a matter of personal choice. It appears that some women are having it to surprise their partner (in some cases, after
years of being married and having
children). Others are giving it as a
gift to their husbands - the chance to make love to a virgin. And of course, some
are having it for the same reasons that Muslims and Catholics do.

Hymenoplasty is a relative simply procedure and can be done under local anesthesia. You can be in and out of the hospital within a matter of hours. The
recovery period is, however, long - about six to eight weeks. It will take
you even longer to be ready to have
sex. Generally speaking, there are no
complications from surgery. The cost of the procedure is all over the place depending on where you have it, but expect to pay somewhere between $2,000 to $5,000.
Should a woman have it?
In my opinion, it should be a decision that a woman should take without any pressure from any one. This is a controversial procedure. In your case,
however, I am not sure that hymenoplasty makes a whole lot of sense. The results last only for one time of
lovemaking. Couples have better
ways to make
their relationship fun, exciting, and
playful.
