Tips on lingerie
How to get started if you have never wore lingerie before?

By Lisa Kramer

Almost all the men that I have dated liked me but every time I was intimate, they would simply never call me back. I did not connect the dots until I went to a sleepover with my girlfriends at a cottage in Maine. That is when I realized that I was still wearing the same type of underwear that I wore when I was a young girl in Kentucky. Now I know that my lingerie turned men off completely. Please give me some tips on how do I start?"

It is not uncommon for women not to realize that lingerie is an important part of their outfit and not just when you are going to be intimate with someone you love. A woman who picks her lingerie carefully is more likely to feel good about herself and that will show in the way she holds herself whether at work or at a party or in the bedroom. Like style, a woman has to acquire a taste for lingerie and then keep up with the trends and the changes in the body (well-fitting lingerie is key and as your size changes during pregnancy, periods, or weight gain/loss, you must have a large enough collection to pick the right piece).

  • Pick your style. Think what you would like to wear. Sexy lingerie does not necessarily mean that you have to show more skin. What will make you look attractive is your body, what part of the body you decide to emphasize (mind you, you do not have to necessarily reveal it), the fabric, the design, and above all, the attitude. You can start with a lingerie website and check out the choices and the models to give you an idea of what you like and what you will not feel comfortable in.

  • You do not have to build a lingerie drawer right away, but it is good to start shopping when you like an item. Divide your requirements for lingerie: casual outfits, formal wear, sleepwear, seductive, etc. And try to populate each category little by little.

  • Pick the right lingerie item for an outfit. For instance, use a T-shirt bra when you wear a T shirt. If you wear a tank top and do not like to show off your bra straps, then buy either a strapless bra or bra with clear, plastic straps. Similarly, use low-rise thongs/panties with low-rise pants. If you don't have a great rear then you might not want to use a thong or G-string. In that case you can cover yourself with a bikini or a boy short or French knickers but choose something that is sheer or transparent or has a great floral pattern. Some women also like to use a tanga if they think that they don't have the best rear in the world but want to wear something sexy. (Related article:  What bra are you wearing?)

  • You do not have to sleep with someone to dress in lingerie. Wear it for yourself. T-shirts were never designed for sleeping.

  • Graduate to sexy pieces as you get more comfortable. For example, a shelf bra or see through negligee or camisole. How about some side-tie panties?

  • Work on your attitude. There are many great websites to give you tips and late night cable television can be helpful too. And then just practice in front of your mirror.
