While there is no place like Las Vegas on earth, it is fairly expensive to travel there if you do not live close by. To the airfare you can add other charges that quickly add up every time you leave home and get on a plane. Plus, due to the hassle factor with air travel, my wife and I are always looking for ways to have a great time without getting on a plane.

That is when a place like the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut is ideal for a trip. And you don't have to gamble in order to have a great time. In fact every time I go to a casino I hardly spend much money in the casino. Over the years I have learned that every time I get close to a slot machine, it starts to act funny and pulls all my bills out of my wallet and gives me an occasional quarter in return. So I go to casino to do other things that they provide.

Let us start off with the Elemis spa. A very sleek place if you want to just relax and recharge yourself. I like the overnight spa package for couples that includes an overnight stay, a full-body 50 minute Swedish massage for couples, and use of facilities during stay - includes Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, relaxation area and fitness center. Total cost for both of us was just about $300.
But food is not included in this package, which we do not mind since Mohegan Sun offers many choices but our favorite is a restaurant called Tuscany (the chef is Todd English). Not only does it have the best location in the casino but also the best food. We have also eaten at the Bamboo Forest which my wife loves it because she is a big fan of light, low-calorie Asian food.

While neither one of us is a big drinker but we do like to hang out in the bar when we are in the casino. It is simply one way to talk without the pressure of keep ordering food and for people-watching. Our favorite is the Leffingwells martini bar, which is actually located inside the Wombi Rock, a three-story crystal mountain. Another place that we like to have a drink is the Wolf Den (there is no cover charge). You get a comfortable place to sit and listen to some great bands. And if you are like my wife who does not even mind dancing alone, you will love the dancing floor.

Finally, let me mention that while we have not checked out everything the casino has to offer, for example, cabaret, concerts, sports event, dining and shopping, you can be rest assured that you will like to visit the Mohegan Sun simply because it is a little paradise in the middle of nowhere.
