Enjoy spa at home, inexpensively

The simplest treatment that can be done at home is a couple's massage. You can take turns to massage each other or simply treat your partner. Do not wait for Valentine's Day; this is something that you can do when you want to share specials moments with your partner without spending a fortune.

A massage can be done without any preparation, but we are talking of a very special massage here. In the most exclusive spas, the ambiance inside the spa and inside the massage room is as important as the treatments are. For your special massage, therefore, start creating a relaxing, inviting, and pleasant ambiance.

Add candles; preferably shop for natural candles that are well protected against spills so you do not have to worry about starting a fire (at least not this type of fire). If you are using fragrant oil, do not use aromatic candles because the mix of aromas may give a headache to some people. Use clean, preferably cotton sheets. Decorate the room with a special theme: gypsy, medieval, Indian, Arabic, Mexican, Far East or whatever catches your fancy to create a "different room" so it feels as if you two are in a resort.

Let's talk about the music. The tradition at high-end days spas and spa resorts has been to play relaxation music (either classical or new age). Since this is your massage, you can select soft music to your taste. If you are decorating with a theme, the appropriate music can help you create the environment (e.g. if you decide to create Southwest or Mexican theme, then some Spanish music will be great).
