I do not want to go into the technical details of how acne happens (my wife gave me detailed
explanations at one time, along with charts that she drew on the kitchen table: let me tell you, the details are boring and dull).
Another point to note is that when acne happens on the
back it is sometimes called
backne or bacne.
As some of you must be wondering why you have it and some of your friends don't. Well, doctors have very little clue. Some of it has to do with hormones.
For those of us who have lots of hormones we tend to suffer more. The other reason is heredity. So chances are that your parents may have given it to you as a
"gift" before you were born. The third reason is not
taking care of your
skin. If you are my type, you probably never bothered to read the label on a
face cream or any other stuff you applied on your face. And you probably bought the cheapest stuff too so that you could save the money for
partying. Well, I learned later on that all these greasy products were attracting all kinds of junk and blocking all the
pores in my skin. Plus, I was too rough with my skin. I never realized that we should
not treat our skins like the bathroom tiles.
I thought the harder I rub the cleaner my skin will be.

So what can you do now?
You should go to a doctor for serious acne problems. He or she will determine how serious the problem is and decide
the appropriate acne medication. You might also get a cream for acne
scars. But you can do a lot of other things without much effort:
-
Clean your skin gently (remember 'gently' is the operative word here). Wash it with a
mild
cleanser, once in the morning and once in the evening and after heavy exercise. It is also important that you thoroughly rinse your skin after washing it. Astringents are not recommended unless the skin is very oily, and then they should be used only on oily spots. Doctors also recommend that patients regularly shampoo their hair. Those with oily hair may want to shampoo it every day.
-
Avoid frequent handling of your skin. People who squeeze, pinch, or pick their
blemishes risk developing scars or dark blotches. You should avoid rubbing and touching your skin lesions.
-
Avoid a sunburn or suntan. Many of the medicines used to treat acne can make a person more prone to
sunburn.
-
Choose cosmetics carefully. People being treated for acne often need to change some of the cosmetics they use. (Advice:
Buy from trusted sources like Mac)
