Cheap date ideas
How to have a great time and spend nothing on a date?

By Lisa Kramer

In recent years it seems that a date is a trip to the movies and dinner, but are these the only options available? Of course not, there are many other simple date ideas that are there, and besides being cheaper, they are also more interesting. Let us take a look at some of them:

Picture of a romantic couple in the park courtesy of Matthew Hull. Shows the couple holding their hands and walking with bare feet on teh green grass. The woman is wearing halter top and is holding a camera in her hand. The man is dressed very casually.Go to a free concert. Bring your chairs or towels and something to drink and eat. Find out ahead of time if you can bring alcohol; if so; bring some wine along with your own gourmet sandwiches. You can also bring just dessert or cheese and crackers, depending on the time of the concert. The idea is to make it memorable. Bring everything beautifully wrapped, have a theme, and make it pretty. You can also split the dishes with your date and that is a great way to share.  (Related:  Date while working)

Go have a picnic in the afternoon. Just like above, make it pretty, bring something to eat, a book of poems to read or jokes, if you prefer. If you picnic near water, bring your swimsuit, and you can also go for a swim or any other water sports that are possible.  (Related article:  How to get ready for the beach?)

Go for a hike. For most people, contact with nature is relaxing. Hiking provides an opportunity for easy conversation on a variety of topics. If you area not in top shape, you can do a light hike. This is not a competition; it has to be easy. After all, it is a date.

Go to a pottery class together, bake and paint your own pottery. You can see each other’s style and appreciate your differences. No two people are alike, no two people have similar tastes in everything and our creativity is unique, but everybody is creative and both of you will be able to literally see each other creating art.

If you love adventure, go to a trapeze class. These places are now more common. In the Boston area, for instance, there is a furniture store, Jordan’s in Reading, that offers these classes. Find one in your area. You will feel like an acrobat in Cirque du Soleil.
