Let's talk
about love
After all it is so important
By Imfwama Wotela
In
this series of two articles,
I am going to explore one of the most important
human emotions: love. On this page,
let us define what is love, particularly from a
woman's perspective. Love is a word that gets everybody’s attention. A simple four letter word that can change a volatile situation into peace. We all want to be loved and need love. We all want to hear the words “I care”, “I love you”, and “You mean a lot to me” plus a big hug and a kiss on the
lip. |

The fairy tale stories we read in nursery school like Cinderella to the romantic novels written today – they all talk about love.
As a woman you sometimes fantasize about
falling in love and waking up in the arms of your Prince Charming. We are a
product of love through a relationship. No matter how old you are, where you live, your position or status in the world, love is irresistible. In fact, even dictators and criminals who otherwise are responsible for crimes against humanity are quite often good family men with families that they love. That just tells you how vital this love is because it brings life, hope, and restoration. As beautiful and powerful as this word is, it’s important that we understand what it is so that we
do not misuse it.
What is Love?
I
understand love this way. I see it as a person with a personality. It is alive and has a presence or a beautiful atmosphere that is electric and when it hits you, there is nothing much you can do about it but to bow. You can try to fight it but it conquers. Take for instance, a home or a
relationship filled with love can be felt without anybody telling you that it exists. The moment you enter that home, you know love lives there. Love tells you to trust and it does not hurt. Hurt and love are two different words with different meanings. That is why when someone breaks your heart it’s not love that broke your heart because love is the victim and not the crime. So never blame it on love. It means that you didn’t find it. When
hurt and pain exist in a relationship it’s not love which is working, because it’s against the nature of love. It cannot be what it’s not. This means that you didn’t find it. It’s still out there and you have to look for it till you find it. The key to life is not giving up on a good thing but searching for it till you find it. The miner does not give up when he is digging for gold, especially if he knows it exists. The value of the gold will make all the work worthwhile and that will be the driving force. |
