Breast augmentation surgery: How to decide?
A lot of women struggle with the issue of plastic surgery, particularly with a series of prime-time television programs now that talk only about plastic surgery. During last two years alone, plastic surgery (particularly breast augmentation) and other cosmetic surgeries have exploded so much so that several plastic surgeons, specifically from Beverly Hills, are now TV icons.
Our position on plastic surgery has always been that women should be proud of who they are rather than turning themselves into unreal dolls because of social pressure. Halle Berry has recently slammed women who have had plastic surgery - calling anyone who goes under the knife "insane." She says that people are so obsessed that there is a whole plastic-looking generation evolving. While Halle Berry's comments sound so noble and bold, we must also listen to women who do opt for plastic surgery. We hear from dozens of women and couples who found tremendous improvement in their sex lives and relationship after plastic surgery procedures like hair transplant for men, vaginoplasty, labiaplasty, hymenoplasty, liposuction, butt augmentation, laser hair removal, and breast lift.
Halle Berry can say this because she has the perfect body but think of all those women that don't. We have helped many women realize who they are and accept their bodies. Once they accepted their bodies and made peace with it, they found new confidence that allowed them to go ahead in life. But not all women can do that. That is why we have also worked with dozens of other women who opted for plastic surgery procedures and found a tremendous improvement in their self-esteem and saw a dramatic rise in the attention they got from everyone around them. This led to improvement in their professional and romantic lives. It has to be a woman's choice; whatever she feels comfortable with. No matter how much a therapist tries to make her feel good about her body but when she stands up in front of the mirror alone and if she can not feel proud of who she is, it is perfectly fine to do something about it.
Lorena Chinchilla, the founder of Lindisima.com, a website for women, says, "Women have to do what makes them happy. If a woman (or a couple) gets convinced that plastic surgery is going to make her happy, there is no reason for her not do it. Not all women are naturally endowed like Halle Berry and if they have to seek the help of a plastic surgeono make them look the way they want, why not?"
Whether to undergo a plastic surgery procedure or not is not a difficult decision. Apart from being fairly expensive, there can be other complications in some cases. Tammy, a lady who wrote to us today, has been struggling with this issue for about last 10 years. She says, "I don't know whether it is the change from being a big tomboy, for the most part, all through high school and then somehow changing into someone very into how she looks and enjoys getting "that" kind of attention from men. I have been told by many people that I have a nice butt. I workout 4-5 times a week, have had 2 children, yet my abs look awesome. I can get all ready for a night out on the town or wherever and be feeling like I am looking HOT! Now, you get me in a situation where I am around well-endowed women, they don't have to be huge or anything, but at least look a lot better than mine, and if I am with my boyfriend....Well.....My entire day/night somehow becomes completely consumed with the fact that my boyfriend is definitely wishing I was bigger and that he wishes he could have someone like that! I believe, and don't think I would have had much argument from the guys I dated, that my insecurities were the beginning of all the problems that inevitably ended the relationship."
Mary, on the other hand, realized that she wanted a plastic surgery procedure because she was just too tired of feeling bad about her body. While her husband was supportive all along in their 15 year marriage (and three children) of whatever choice she made, it still took her a while to make up her mind. Now she is a totally transformed person. She spends a great deal of time on the beach, goes out more often, and has turned into a livelier person. "I used to hate parties in summer because I used to wonder if everyone was making fun of me. Not any more. Now I make sure that everyone has a good look at the excellent results of plastic surgery procedures," she tells us.
We, however, believe that a decision about plastic surgery should be a woman's choice, not something forced upon her by a man in her life or the society. Girls in their pre-teen years are now worried about their breast and butt size. Many of them get to the point that they need professional help. All because the media has basically made it difficult for women to feel good about their natural bodies. Tammy is not discouraged, however. She says, "I guess all I can do is hope and pray that I am able to develop the sense of self-worth and self-esteem that many a counselor and many a friend have attempted to assist me with."
