Since marriage is no longer a way for women to seek financial protection from men, they can choose to make choices that were difficult a few decades ago. For instance, leave them when things do not work out or if they are abused. Is this the reason that during the last decade, two out of three women who won the best actress award at the Oscars, decided to end their relationships? The latest to join that list is Reese Witherspoon.

Others with that distiction are Hillary Swank, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Helen Hunt. The two that did not do so are Charlize Theron and Frances McDormand. Nicole Kidman was single at the time of her award but did end her relationship with Tom Cruise later on.

So what went wrong between Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe?

They looked like such a charming couple but they had their ups and downs. The fact that they sought therapy was not something they hid from the public but it seems that it did not work for them. No one knows exactly what triggered their split but clearly there are two reasons.

One, Ryan Phillippe was not the A-lister that Witherspoon is. In other words, whole opposites might attract, ultimately in most cases, it is two people with similar backgrounds and values thrive as a couple.

Two, the rumored adulterous relationship with Australian actress Abbie Cornish (though you wonder why a man would fall for her considering Reese herself is a drop-dead gorgeous woman). It is almost like Peter Cook cheating with Diana Bianchi while he was married to supermodel Christie Brinkley.

Cortney Pellettieri of InStyle asked Ben McKenzie if it was true that he was attracted to older women. His answer was a loud YES. This is what he said:

"I have a greater sense of who older women are and what they want. They're not after anything because they've already made their way in the world so their motives are pure. And they're less needy and more independent, which is always more attractive to someone who is also independent."

So all those mature women out there who constantly live in the fear that younger men will not be attracted to them or if they do, they will dump them for a younger woman, listen to what Benjamin is saying. In other words, some men (and French men have known this for a long time) are genuinely attracted to an older woman and love being around her even if they have a choice to be with someone younger.

Sara Evans and Craig Schelske were married for some 13 years and had three children - in other words, she was a true country girl raising one happy family. But that was not the case for Craig Schelske, who according to the divorce papers, is a pervert, addicted to all kinds of things you don't expect from married men (especially if your wife is one of the prettiest women around). He is also being accused of being abusive and adulterous.

Naturally, Sara Evans has left the reality program “Dancing with the Stars” - she wasn't the best dancer on the show, but support from her fans helped her stay. Remember that just before the show began, another contestant, Shanna Moakler, divorced Travis Barker over accusations that he was spending too much time with Paris Hilton.

I think the list of Hollywood celebrities who practice open relationships is exploding. Lindsay Lohan claimed that she was polyamorous. We all know how Paris Hilton changes boyfriends faster than her underwear. Then Hal Sparks and Samantha Humphrey announced their open relationship. To this list of what is only slightly different from swinging, add another name: Scarlett Johansson.

In a very revealing insight about this celebrity who has traditionally kept quiet about her boyfriends, she says that she is not promiscuous but is still very open-minded. "Yet I wouldn't say I'm a serial monogamist, either," she says in case you did not understand what she means.

And if you are a conservative who is hurt, well grow up, because we really are no different than animals. "I do think on some basic level we are animals, and by instinct we kind of breed accordingly. But as much as I believe that, I work really hard when I'm in a relationship to make it work in a monogamous way," she echoes the sentiments of Sienna Miller who is in on-off relationship with another serial cheater Jude Law.

There are even rumors that his skin color presented problems with her family members but she did her part by convincing them he was the man that she wanted to spend her life with. Some even think that her trip to Bora Bora was a pre-honeymoon.

It is all over now. Like Jessica Simpson, Eva Longoria is single. And she may add a new meaning to the word "desperate," because there is a chance that the two might get together.

So what could have gone wrong?

First of all, when you are a Hollywood celebrity, things are exciting for you. Gorgeous people approach you all the time and that gives you a great opportunity to compare your existing partner with new possibilities - it's just that people like Britney Spears don't do that comparison.

Two, when couples don't spend enough time together, it is easy for someone else to step in and make that comparison even more likely.

Three, while Tony Parker might have flirted with an ex-girlfriend, it does not give you the right to fool around too. There are rumors that Eva may have something going with Mario Lopez.

And finally, some older women dating younger men might come across as too desperate - turning men off. Tony Parker, who is just 24, will have no problem finding another hottie, but Eva Longoria knows that dating after 30 is not easy and her biological clock to get pregnant is ticking fast.
